5th Grade History
Colleague introduction: Since my local history project is really geared around taking my students on a historical walking tour of our town, I have set up a Power Point that the students will use as a way to gather information before their trip. This presentation is meant only as an introduction for my students. The real meat of the project will obviously going to experience the places themselves. I will also be making up a packet that my students will receive. The packet will include place for them to take notes about the famous people and places as well as all of the NASA analysis sheets they will be using. I find that a packet will be a much easier way for my students to keep track of all of their research. Once the research is done we will be basing group discussions around my students findings. Then after the walking tour they will be working with a partner to create a brochure that highlights Easton's Historical and Revolutionary ties.
Janine,
This is an awesome project! The students will really enjoy what you have planned for them and will be learning so much and won't even realize it. Great job on the primary sources you have chosen!

Janine,
I really like how you are having your students use their primary sources to develop a travel brochure. It seems like a very interesting way of having your students take a closer look at the history of their community in a fun and exciting way. Your project idea offers great opportunities to be adapted as a project on our own community's history as well. (Rob)
Janine,
I think your presentation did a great job at incorporating many primary resources for your students to explore. It is also wonderful that you are having them analyze the resources. If you really are going to Easton as a field trip, I think this would be an amazing project to give your students. They would certainly get a lot more out of their field trip after doing the research beforehand. Nice job!
